‘Pig’s blood’ hurled at Nasrudin’s house
TEMERLOH: With just three days away from election day, the political scene here took an ugly turn today when a bag of purported pig’s blood and meat was thrown at the home of PAS Temerloh candidate Nasrudin Hassan, splattering his driveway and car.
A sinister note was attached to the bloody parcel, with the words, “Kau suka DAP, Cina Babi, terimalah daging dan darah babi ini” [you like the Chinese pigs DAP, take this pig meat and blood), barely decipherable.
Nasrudin’s assistant, Yusof Assidiqqi Ahmad Sharkawi, told FMT he stumbled upon the scene when exiting the house at 7am.
“No one heard or saw anything as we were so exhausted from our campaigning last night. But we suspect it happened between 5am and 7am as one of our officers said the driveway was still clear when he went out at 5am,” explained Yusof.
Hassanuddin Salim, Temerloh PAS division deputy chief, said the incident came as a shock as candidates from both Pakatan Rakyat and Barisan Nasional here have engaged in “mature politics” since the campaign period began.
Nasrudin’s opponent here is incumbent MP Saifuddin Abdullah, who is known for his vocal criticism of “dirty politics”.
Both had agreed early on not to stoop down to character assassination or violence when campaigning, and have since kept to their word.
It was for this reason Hassanuddin said he was unwilling to point fingers at any quarters.
“We do not want to assume anything. But I hope that there is no negative speculation. We leave everything up to the security personnel to do their duty,” he said,
adding that they had lodged a police report around at 9.30 this morning. But he expressed doubt that the contents of the parcel truly comprised pig’s blood.
“If you look at the composition, it looks like paint mixed with blood to look more [like pig's blood], and what we see inside the parcel is a chicken’s head and lumps of meat, which we believe to be chicken meat as well,” said Hassanuddin.
Nasrudin was on the way to his house when the incident happened and was unavailable for comment.
Umno man condemns incident
Saifuddin meanwhile said he was disappointed over the incident
“I strongly condemn this action, I am confident it was not done by Temerloh BN volunteers and machinery.
“I have been consistent in rejecting dirty politics. I have always called for politics with integrity. Earlier this morning, I text messaged Nasrudin my stand and suggested that he lodge a police report,” he said.
He also urged the police to carry out immediately investigation on the matter.
“Those responsible must face the music. I hope this incident does not recur since Nasrudin and I have agreed to run a clean campaign,” he said. -FMT
